James Anthony Cunningham, son of the late James Robert Cunningham and Virgie Mary Lynn, was born on November 11, 1953 in Danville, Virginia. After a lengthy illness called gently called him from labor to rest on the morning of October 1st.
James affectionately known as Anthony received his education in the Danville Public School System, graduating from George Washington High School in 1972.
After graduating, Anthony was enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where he served his country for a few years until receiving an honorable discharge. One of his most memorable moments was fighting in the Vietnam War in 1973 - 1974, those experiences helped shape and mold Anthony for a lifetime.
At an early age, Anthony gave his life to Christ and later became a member of the New Hope Christian Baptist Church. He knew the Lord and during his last weeks of life, he made it known!
In 1992, he married the love of his life, Doreen. Anthony always expressed his love for his wife and their inseparable bond was steady until the very end.
Anthony was also a great father and friend to many. He loved people, he especially enjoyed walking to the corner store for neighbors to play their numbers or buy a pack of Newports. He would do anything for anyone and will greatly be missed.
Anthony shared a special bond with his Aunt Lucille, to whom preceded him death along with his close cousin, Ardell .
Memories of Anthony will always be treasured, he leaves to mourn, his loving and caring wife, Doreen; three stepdaughters, Tanisha, Nieasa and Dawn; one stepson, Cecil; 11 grandchildren, Tracy, Tywaun, Treyshawn, Sammy (whom preceded him in death), Dallas, Trayvon, Terron, Jailah, Eric, Jade and Dream; one great-grandson, Sammy; three sisters, Rose Mary, Keena and Paquitha; Close cousins, John, Charles, Louise, Phyllis, Juanita and Darlene; and a hosts of other family members and friends.
