Leslie Thornton Jr. was born on August 19, 1944, to the late Pearl and Leslie Thornton Sr. He was called by God to eternal Glory at the age of 79 on October 5th, 2023. Leslie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. After graduating from Douglass High School, he worked at Henderson Grocery Store and delivered Jet magazines and newspapers to local residents. Leslie served two years in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he pursued a professional career in Nursing with the State of Maryland. He retired from Clifton T Perkins Hospital Center after 26 years. Leslie met and married the late Yvonne C. Slowe on May 29th, 1965. Preceding their death they lived in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Leslie was very funny but also quiet. He was well known for his love of God and his family and friends. One of his favorite verses was “The Book of Roman 12”. He will always be remembered as a gentle, peaceful, loving soul. Leslie was known for carrying his chapstick wherever he went.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sisters, Ernestine Murphy and Cleo Sawyer: two brothers, James E. Thornton and Leonard M. Thornton; best friend, Gary Diehl; a special friend and caretaker, Marsha Garman, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.
