The Righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, And delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalms 34: 17-18
Mary Frances Baynard, beloved Daughter of the late Samuel Howard and Gladys Butler-Thomas was peacefully called home on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 3:10 pm at Life Bridge Health at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, after a brief, yet hard-fought battle with cancer.
Mary, affectionately known as “Pony” to her closest friends and family, was a very loving, friendly, strong, peaceful, and fun woman. She loved her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Mary Frances Baynard was born on January 29, 1949 at City Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland to Samuel Howard and Gladys Butler, who both preceded her in transition. Also preceding her in transition was her eldest son Christopher Butler (December 13, 2023,) her grandfather Joseph Butler, grandmother Frances Butler, her beloved aunt Agnes King, uncle Joseph Butler, and sisters Theresa Butler, Helen Thomas, and Brenda Debose (December 13, 2024) and her beloved pet dogs Mr. Shorts and Smoky.
Mary received her education in the Baltimore Public School Systems, and was a dedicated employee at Crawford Retreat, Inc in Baltimore, Maryland, where she worked 44 years, until her retirement in June 2017, alongside Mrs. Sharon Corwell, with whom she shared a special bond.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, Antoine Hairston Sr. and Charles Whalen Jr; grandsons, Christopher Butler Jr, Antoine Hairston Jr, and Daquane Hairston; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Bernett and Paulette Thomas; one brother, Bernard Butler; four nieces, Nicole Butler, Lakeysha Pennix, Marie Thomas, and Rhonda Butler; two nephews, Clyde Bernett Jr, and Darren Bernett; great nieces, Darnesha Mackall, Makayla Thomas, and Darrien Bernett; great nephews, De’Quan Williams and Darren Bernett Jr; a special friend, Crisstel Talbert, her beloved pets, Tippy (cat) and Muffin (dog,) and a host of other relatives and friends.
