Reginald “Mickey Bates” Smith, son of Leanna Smith Johnson, born on December 1, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life following a short illness on Tuesday, January 12, 2022. A special aunt Catherine “Caddy” preceded him in death.
Mickey was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and he also attend Peabody Institute for a short time. He was a kind gentle man, who was dedicated to family and friends. If he thought you were in need, he would give you his last.
Mickey lived and breathed music, it was his passion. He traveled the world fulfilling his dream as a musician. He was bass guitar player for groups such as the Softones, First Class, The Drifters and many more. In his later years he had begun teaching guitar lessons.
Mickey leaves to cherish his memory; one brother Michael Johnson, one uncle William “Billy”, one aunt Betty, two special friends George Adams and James Patrick, and a host of cousins and friends.
