Ronald E. Wren

Ronald Earl Wren was the youngest son of the late Robert and Hilda Wren.  Ronald, affectionately known as Ron, Boo, or Wren was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 14,1941. He passed away quietly on January 30, 2026, at the Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, Maryland after a short illness. His loving and devoted son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Gina, were by his side in his final moments. 

Ron grew up in Baltimore City with his family on Dover Street. As a child he loved to run and ride his scooter.  Ron was known to ride his scooter throughout Baltimore, exploring the city as long as he was home by his curfew time of 7:00 pm. While Ron was the younger brother, he, unlike his older brother, demonstrated an interest in learning how to cook at an early age, which he did very well. He became so proficient at cooking delicious meals, he would at times cook for his siblings and especially his older brother and himself when his parents went on vacation. One of Ron’s other favored childhood pastimes was visiting and spending time and summers in Shady Side, Maryland, with his sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephews and cousins. 

Ron attended elementary school at Baltimore School #123 and completed his grade school education with his graduation from Frederick Douglas High School. He started his college education at Morgan State University in Maryland but, later transferred to Wilberforce University in Ohio.  Ultimately, Ron completed his college education at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in June 1966. 

On, June 6, 1971, Ron married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cyndee” Odessa Wren. They were happily married for over 52 years! From their union, their son, Christopher (Chris) Wren was born. When Chris married Gina Schindler-Wren, they happily gained the daughter that they never had. Over the years the family enjoyed many happy times and experiences together, particularly their extensive world travels. They traveled to all 50 US States, cruised the Caribbean a number of times, and toured numerous countries such as: Australia, Russia, Germany, Iceland, Africa, Central and South America. 

In 1966, Ron began his professional career in science with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in shock trauma and radiation. While at Walter Reed, Ron also joined the Army National Guard in 1967 and served until he earned an Honorable discharge in September 1971. Meanwhile, in 1967 Ron began a long-distinguished career working for the Federal government at the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) until he retired in 2008, after 41-years of civil service. 

Ron lived a full life during which he enjoyed listening to smooth jazz, traveling the world, being a foodie and sampling a wide variety of delicious cuisines, fine wines and beers. He was mechanically inclined from an early age and mastered skills that he inherited from his Dad for building and fixing many things around the home. Ron utilized his mechanical skills in his passion for cars especially his beloved 1938 Chevy Street Rod.  He spent countless time sharing in his love for cars with his son, Chris, attending car shows in Cumberland, Maryland, Carlisle and Hershey, Pennsylvania, and other venues, researching car parts and rebuilding cars. 

Ron is preceded in death by his loving wife, Cyndee Wren: his father Robert Wren; his mother Hilda Wren, his eldest son Ronald Wren, Jr., and his sisters, Bernice Matthews; Katie Fernandez; Elizabeth Bowling, Ruth Brown; Shirley Wren and Carol Wren. He sadly leaves to mourn his son, Chris Wren, daughter-in-law, Gina Schindler-Wren, brother, Robert E. Wren, sister-in-law, Mary Wren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
