Shawn Pleasant Obituary

Shawn Ronnell Pleasant son, brother, philosopher and friend was born October 7, 1974 at 12:39 AM at Sinai Hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland.  Shawn transitioned from time to eternity on December 3, 2020 at 12:29 PM at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center after contending with a lengthy illness.

Shawn started his education at Pimlico Elementary in Baltimore where he learned the fundamentals of life: Reading, Writing and Articulate Conversations.  After leaving Pimlico, Shawn attended William H. Lemmel Middle School where he learned life’s intermediate skills: Football, Wrestling, and Time Management.  After mastering those skills, Shawn then received an academic scholarship to continue his education at Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Maryland. It was at Georgetown where Shawn started his apprenticeship as: “Shawn Pleasant, the Economist, theorist and Barber.” While at Georgetown, Shawn participated in stage crew, photography, wrestling, JV & Varsity Football. Shawn graduated top of his class and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend University of Pennsylvania better known as UPenn.  On the 21st day of February 1993, Shawn and his line brothers (All for One) made their pledge to Groove Phi Groove, Social Fellowship,Inc. Shawn was #2 on his line and received the name: THE ROCK. Shawn graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in economics and a minor in Eristics.

After graduating from UPenn, Shawn worked at various banks and private institutions but the two he spoke about the most were his positions at PNC Financial Services Group as a Computer Software Specialist and Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation as a Systems Analyst. Though Shawn enjoyed what he did for a living, he was a firm believer in the adage: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull Boy.” Shawn enjoyed watching television, listening to music, riding his scooter, participating in heated debates, and LOVED traveling internationally.  Just to name a few, he has visited Japan,China, The Philippines,Thailand, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic!

Shawn’s epic story would not be complete until you acknowledge his first love, Jesus Christ. At the age of 12, Shawn gave his hand and his heart to the Lord and ever since that day, he journeyed through life making Heaven his place of final rest. Shawn was baptized by his spiritual leader, Rev. Herbert E. Sye, Jr., pastor of New Life Inspirational Church of Baltimore.  While at New Life, Shawn sang on the junior choir, attended weekly bible study, and was always present at sunday school.  His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13- “ I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” This verse was the very catalyst for Shawn’s life- even in the midst of weakness, Christ was there to provide strength.

Shawn leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Patricia Pleasant-Goodwin, Arthur Goodwin; three brothers, Anthony Pleasant, Dimitri Goodwin,Deitrick Goodwin; one sister, Toshia Goodwin-Johnson; one sister in law; Saresa Pleasant (Anthony) one brother in-law, Patrick Johnson; two uncles, Alphonzo Goodwin,Jeff Forrester; Three aunts, Carol Pleasant-Robinson, Gladys Pleasant, Barbara Pleasant-Forrester; one nephew, Dimitri Goodwin, Jr.; two nieces, Dimiya Goodwin, Dynia Goodwin and a host of cousins, relatives and friends all around the world.
