Vera Lumpkins Obituary

Vera’s Journey

“ It is well with my soul.”

James and Dorothy Cherry were blessed to be the parents of eight children of which Vera, affectionally called Jimmie was the third blossom on our Cherry tree. Vera received the sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Eucharist and Matrimony at Saint Marks Church in Catonsville ‘Maryland

Vera received her formal education from Saint Frances Xavier Elementary School, she graduated from Saint Francis Academy under the tutelage of the Oblate Sisters of Providence. Upon graduating from high school Vera joined the family business, The Cherry’s Upholstery Company, owned and operated by our dad. Vera found great joy in working with family. She retired from working for the Chancellors of the University of Maryland after thirty for filled years.

Vera joined in holy matrimony with James Lumpkin Sr. Together they loved, nurtured and supported six children, James Jr., Gregory, Craig, Edward, Leeann and Jacquline. Vera was a loyal wife, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her sisters and brothers beyond measure.

Vera’s favorite pass-time was thrift shop hopping with her sisters. It was a good time had, we culminated our day with a visit to Popeyes her favorite order was chicken tenders and a coke. Vera loved to dine out, her sister Dorothy afforded her this pleasure. Her favorites were a crab cake dinner or Grilled shrimp with rice and a coke with no ice. Her last request thenight before she passed was Mac and Cheese, Vera enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching her children and grandchildren play as well as checking out her neighbors. Vera loved pets, her favorite and last was Dora, a black and brown Yorkshire Terrier.

Vera was always entertaining us with amazing and amusing situations. She was witty and hilarious to the bone. Knowing that she was in transit we told her how much we loved her. She would always respond, “I love you back” We also told her that she was beautiful, she responded, “I Know”! As comical as she was it was difficult to get her to smile. Her unwavering love and faith in God allowed her to endure her pain without complaining.

Vera, you are a beautiful soul, and we love you back, but your Heavenly Father loves you so much more He has invited you home to be with Him forever. Vera, you will always be missed and loved. Rest in peace.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, James Sr, and son Craig. Vera leaves to cherish her love, loyalty, and laugher to her six children: James Lumpkins Jr., Gregory Lumpkins (Senora), Edward Lumpkins, Leeann Lumpkins and Jacqueline Lumpkins; her grandchildren: Akeria, Gregory Jr., Marcus, Sierra, Jasmine, Edward Jr, Kieria, Erykah, Jonnaye, Olivia, Ayonna, Jordan, Kayla ,Breonna, and Christian; her great-grandchildrenare: Josiah, Ava, Bella, Zyair, Clover, Luna , Karnae, Devon, Brynn, Gabrielle, Pier, and Kyrstal, Her sisters: Sr. Brenda Cherry, OSP, Sandra William (Calvin), Dorothy Clinkscales, and brother Donald Cherry will always cherish and love our Jimmie.
